Quiénes somos

How +QS was born (Jeremiah 33:3)

Were we journalists, our account of how the More Than Just Health group came into being would say that this was as the result of a set of chance happenings. These events in Palma, Mallorca, in September-October 2006, led to a group of Christian doctors meeting each other for the first time. We might add other details to our report, such as that the first e-mail sent to the group was dated 27th October, or that our the first meeting took place on 1st November of that year.

None of the above seems relevant, however, because we believe that the story, our story, begins somewhere else and at some other moment in time. So we can’t but lay before our readers, however briefly, our perception of how More Than Just Health came to be born. What follows may sound a bit "spiritual", but we can’t deny, nor do we wish to, that the spiritual realm exists and that it is right here before and around us. If you are a believer, you’ll understand -if you aren’t, try to bear with us!

At some moment, this story was put together in the mind of our Lord. Each one of us has always had within him or her something motivating them to offer service to others. In Jeremiah 33:3 we find the best way of explaining how the events of our story unfolded. Over and above the greater or lesser forces of the particular motivation at work in the depths of each individual, the Lord has answered our cry, our plea for him to use us, to stamp the hall-mark of Christ in some way on whatever medical/social service we might offer.

All of us had been active in serving the Lord in our local churches; all of us had been through difficult trials in recent times; all of us had asked the Lord "What do you want me to do?" We were all aware that the fire of trial is not a permanent state, but rather a step on the road towards more fruitful situations – and so the Lord began to move us on. Two sisters, one a resident in paediatrics and the other in gynaecology, hail from Gerona and Valencia, respectively; another is a gynaecologist who has come over to the island from Madrid, to begin a new period in her life. A surgeon, the husband of the paediatrics resident already mentioned, arrived here from Barcelona and another doctor, who has been an oncologist in Palma for the last 16 years, was searching for meaning in his own ministry and looking towards the possibility of that being in another town or city in Spain. Setting up and over-seeing the group has made him stay here in Mallorca, however. We work in a number of different hospitals on the Island. Has all this happened by chance?

Other Christian doctors, including an English couple (family doctors) decided to move to Mallorca. Up to the moment of writing, there has been a real sense that God is working and giving shape to a project of which we are a part- we don’t know what the main plot to this story is yet, or what the end will be. What Jeremiah 33:3 explains to us is just that- (that we are experiencing great things and that, though as yet these plans have not been fully revealed to us by the Lord, they will be, bit by bit).

These are the foundations on which we are building. We are not looking at our own abilities and are instead convinced that the Lord has been the arquitect of this Project. All we have done has been to call out to him, fully persuaded that it was He who put that cry in our hearts. We want to be passionate in this service for the Lord, believing that He is behind all these plans.
